From 2021 to 2024, I worked as Creative Lead, and Head of Programme Development at Element, a youth arts charity based in North London. During my time there, I oversaw the design and delivery of our creative programmes across primary and secondary schools and local authorities. As part of this role, I led a year-long redesign of our entire programme. Through research, consultations, and piloting, I developed a comprehensive programme development package, which included a methodology framework, quality assurance framework, facilitator’s guide, and creative curriculum.
This package drew on the theories and ideas of Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Bell Hooks, and Stuart Hall's perspectives on identity, as well as the dismantling of conventional teaching and education hierarchies. Our curriculum was designed to use creativity as a tool to explore issues related to cultural representation and access to art, empowering young people to critically engage with these themes and their own identities.
